Happy holidays -- I mean it

For Christians such as myself around the globe, the month of December is full of beloved traditions. Lately, however, our nation has witnessed a trendy twist on Christmas, which is meant to bring tidings of comfort and joy. It seems many of us have forgotten Santa's admonition about shouting, crying and pouting and instead whine copiously about those who choose not to celebrate with us. I think it is time to offer a rejoinder to the proponents of this nascent tradition.

As a 23-year-old woman with a bachelor's degree, I am embarrassed to see how in such a wonderful country where an African-American is finally president and where women and minorities are all given equal rights to an education, a vice-presidential candidate was ridiculed in the way Sarah Palin was.

Students can cave to pressure, but winners never cheat?

In Monday's Orlando Sentinel, an article ("Dishonesty typical of teens?") identified teenagers as being less honest than in previous generations. A survey said that 64 percent admitted to having cheated on a test, and that's only those who admit it. The percentage is most likely higher.
